Welcome
Welcome to the St Francis of
Assisi Roman
Catholic Community. We are located near downtown Los Angeles in the
Silverlake area. Our community comprises of a Church and School (K-8).
We are an international community and masses are held in
English and Spanish. The community is influenced by its Patron St
Francis and his charism is a part of our daily life.
As Catholics, in a community of many cultures, we are called to be followers of Christ, ministering to others in service, love and prayer. In the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi, we strive to be a caring and evangelizing community focused on the Holy Eucharist.

..... from Father Richard
Just who is the "beloved disciple" in St. John's Gospel? The earliest and longest tradition is that the disciple is John, the Son of Zebedee. Scholars are really not sure about that anymore. It could be that the author of the Fourth Gospel leaves out the identity of the disciple whom Jesus loved on purpose? Could it be that the author deliberately meant to present the "beloved disciple" as a model for all of us as a model of faith?
Running to the tomb may not be necessary to believe as did the disciple whom Jesus loved. But there are tombs within us that could use a good spring cleaning: grudges that need to be swept away with our faith. We can forgive as the risen Christ forgave.
Taking Mary into our homes may be the easiest part of all, because she wants to dwell there. She wants us to believe. She wants us to love her risen Son. If we invite her in, she will come. It really is as simple as that.
The most important trait of the "beloved disciple" is intimacy with the Lord. And the risen Jesus wishes that relationship even more than we do. Whenever we turn toward him, he rushes to meet us, in our prayer, and especially in our gathering to share his Body and Blood in the Eucharist.
God has already blessed us so very much. We are indeed "beloved." May we all experience our being beloved especially this Easter.

Thank you from Fr. Richard
Our thanks to all who worked and saw their labors fulfilled during the Holy week:
Christine de Leon and the choir for all the late night practices to prepare music to lift our hearts and prayer and praise together. Servers who gave up time for practices and whose presence at the altar make liturgy possible. Lectors who had obviously spent more time in preparation to read the readings. All who helped decorate and do it again the next day, and the next. Sacristans and ushers who helped in the liturgies to flow smoothly. Catechists who helped prepare Colleen to profess her faith, and enter into full communion with the Catholic Church on Holy Saturday. Javier for preparing all the worship aids, and his faithful preparation of the bulletin every week. All who helped with the devotions during the Noon to 3:00 p.m. time on Good Friday.
