The Filipino Community
The
mission of the Filipino Community is to call on all the Filipino
parishioners to be united in supporting the needs of the parish church
as well as to share our unique cultural and religious celebrations with
the St Francis family. The Filipino Community works in collaboration
with the Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles as well as
the Ethnic Ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
The Filipino Community is composed of ALL the parishioners who are Filipino by birth or affinity. This is not an exclusive club - so if you see us working at the Parish Hall or in-and-about during the "fiesta season", please feel free to jump in and join the fun! We are always in need of the extra helping hand or that second opinion. The more helping hands, the less work there is to spread around.
The community provides both financial and non-financial assistance and support to various parish celebrations which includes, but is not limited to , the feasts of Santa Nino, Immaculate Conception, and Simbang Gabi. We are always hosts to the ever-popular barbecue booth during the annual Parish Fiesta held in the first part of October.
We have been hosting 'donut Sundays' occasionally to be able to share our delicacies with the whole parish as well as to provide fellowship events for parishioners and visitors to the Church. Our Doughnut Sundays are meant for sharing although we tend to raise a little funds from them at times.
Of course, for the community to survive, we have fund raising activities which in the past had included the Luau Dinner Dance, concerts, and weekend casino trips. We do approach our more generous kababayans for donations when out coffers cannot handle the expense.
In addition to the above, our community has been instrumental in helping the poor and needy in the Philippines such as typhoon victims, Gawad Kalinga, etc.
We are calling on all Filipinos to take and active part in our mission. The loose structure in which the community works is favorable to the ease and convenience of 'running' it. Currently we have a coordinator who takes care of the organization - with the help of committee members who are our very active parishioners.
Please feel free to call Butch or Lee Geraldez for any other questions or concerns. (Check out the Ministry tab for contact info.)
